What is Kefir and is it good for me?
Here’s the 101 on Kefir. You most definitely need to incorporate this secret weapon into your well-being toolbox!
This beverage ferments at ambient temperatures, as a result, you get a beverage like a thin yogurt drink full of a wealth of health benefits. It is made by adding grain-like colonies of yeast and lactic acid bacteria to the milk. These grains resemble cauliflower in appearance.
The grains’ lactic acid bacteria turn the milk’s lactose into lactic acid. This is what makes kefir taste sour like a drinkable yogurt. YUM!
What is fermentation?
When bacteria break down a substance, this is referred to as fermentation. Yeast or other microorganisms kick off this process. Fermentation, a metabolic process, produces chemical changes in organic substrates through the action of enzymes. Biochemistry narrowly defines it as the extraction of energy from carbohydrates in the absence of oxygen.
