back to schoolHere’s your back to school checklist

Back to school can be a little stressful. To mitigate the stress and help, we have decided on tips for your checklist. These are a guide; adjust as you see fit! If your child sleeps in, incentivize them by introducing ‘Fun Friday,’ where they receive a treat only if they have performed well during the week. Older teens can be tricky, but taking away pocket money or their beloved devices can help give you bargaining power. Good Luck!

Are your child’s vaccines up to date?

The Texas Department Of Health Services has put together a Back-to-School Outreach Toolkit for the 2023-2024 school year. This toolkit contains various resources to help you promote vaccine efforts on campus. Texas state has strict minimum requirements for vaccines. Learn more here.

Establish a workable back to school routine by;

  • Putting clothes out the night before
  • Setting alarms in your children’s rooms in addition to waking them up!
  • Preparing a healthy breakfast. Some children prefer to eat breakfast on their way to school or at school. There are so many options, bulk batch cooking pancakes, waffles and grilled cheese, pita bread with various fillings, and breakfast muffins packed with fruit and bran are easy nutritious goto breakfast food. Also, pack fruit and a water bottle!
  • Like above pack a healthy snack and/or lunch, cheese, fruit, and pita bread are great options

Set up dedicated, free-of-screen time to allow time for homework. This is a battle for all parents. For a thorough and helpful guide from The American Academy of Pediatrics click here.

 The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends these acceptable amounts of screen time limits:

    • No screen time for children under 2
    • One hour per day for children 2 to 12
    • Read our screentime blog
